Curing the COVID Blues: 4 New songs by Nashville Artists You Need to Hear
With the month of May being mental health month/meditation May, I am being more intentional about self-healing practices. One of those practices is that of gratefulness. While exploring what to write this next post about, I felt like I could make it align with that practice.
In middle school I loved discovering unique music both new and old and I find that now I often just shuffle my own library or obsess over a few albums that become my favorites of that year. I am grateful for those albums in their own right, but there is plenty of room for more music to explore locally. I am blessed to live near some incredibly talented and creative individuals here in Nashville. So in an effort to show my gratitude and get back to what I really enjoy doing, I am actively including more local music in my rotation.
Specifically in this article, I want to feature a few local artists that I think you have to check out and I have linked the ways to do so. Whether you are local to Nashville or not, I am confident you will find a new song you like.
Rig B: How I Love to Sing
From the upcoming album, “The Cost of an Orange”, the song, “How I Love to Sing”, by Nashville post-rock band Rig B marks a delightful return for the band. Rig B is the brainchild of Nashville musician and songwriter Ryan Bigelow. With Rig B he has encompassed what modern folk-jazz should be. This new song leans more on the jazz side of things and playfully dances with the psych rock of the 60s (which I am a sucker for). They have another new single coming out June 1st, so mark your calendars folks! “The Cost of an Orange” album comes out July 1st this year, but in the meantime check “How I Love to Sing” here.
Griffin Winton: Think of Me
Nashville artist, Griffin Winton, created this song out of the COVID-19 pandemic. It recognizes essential workers and their plight during this time. Most importantly it reminds you to treat people with compassion during this pandemic and after it has ended. It is the most spot on song about the COVID-19 pandemic out there, and I am honored to have mixed, mastered, and added a little percussion on it. You can hear it bellow and be sure to follow Griffin!
Love Montage: Save a Little Time
The brand new single, “Save a Little Time,” from Nashville good time music outfit Love Montage is a must pick for this list. Released last Friday, just in time for this past Memorial Day weekend, it is about to be the theme song to your summer. The song literally sounds like driving to the lake for a swim or grilling in your back yard with a beer. It stays interesting throughout with a driving beat and thumping bass, with some twist and turns thrown in. Go brighten your day with this new Love Montage track and give them a follow.
Coach Stacy: Hope for the Best
Though heavy Alt-rock rock band Coach Stacy released their new EP, “Separate Cars but Not Alone”, back in February of 2020, I wanted to feature them here for anyone who hasn’t had the chance to check them out. They have a rich heavy sound that is also somehow soothing. Particularly on the track “Hope for the Best”. If you have done heavy metal yoga before, this would be a good song to add to your practice. They switch between melodic and harsh sounds seamlessly. Go give them a listen and a follow!
